This excursion offers the possibility of combining different tourist spots that propose activities framed in the development of history, geography, paleontology, flora, fauna and the sociocultural process so enriching and characteristic of the area.
The excursion begins from the city of Puerto Madryn heading south, taking Provincial Route Nº3 until reaching the city of Trelew. Its name in Welsh means “Louis' Town”, in homage to Lewis Jones, considered the founder of the city and promoter of the railway works, promoting its development. Currently Trelew has a great cultural activity, being the center of important events: the Eisteddfod (annual meeting of Celtic origin that takes place only in Wales and in this territory), the International Choir Competition, the Gwyl Glaniand Tea (28 July), among other powerful events. We take a City Tour touring Plaza Independencia, communal buildings, the church and old buildings until we reach the Egidio Feruglio Paleontological Museum (MEF), (optional entry). This museum has a heritage of large and important dinosaur pieces found in local territory. In addition, it is a unique scientific activity center of its kind in South America, which is framed in a modern and unconventional conception, reflecting a range of paleontological exhibitions. Its interpretive tours tell the story of the different forms of life (animal, plant, native people), which were found and currently live in Patagonia. Among other attractions, the museum exhibits dinosaur skeletons of different species, murals painted by set designers from the Teatro Colón that set the pieces in their time, a variety of fossil samples classified according to different periods (time, era, antiquity and family genre), that expose prehistoric life to the present day. In addition, from the center of scientific activities, you can see large windows that allow you to “spy” on the work of scientists when they clean, restore and classify the fossil pieces. *This excursion includes the time necessary to venture into the wonderful MEF museum.
Once the experience in Trelew is over, we will travel to the city of Rawson (capital of the Province of Chubut). A few kilometers from the city and at the point where the waters of the Chubut River meet the sea, the Port of Rawson rises and next to it the spa town is located. Union Beach, which is in the open sea and is part of Bahía Engaño. Here we have the option to experience a beautiful navigation in a powerful semi-rigid to watch Toninas Overas, small dolphins that have the characteristic of being sociable, active and excellent swimmers, turning the watching into a dynamic and fun ride. They themselves are the ones who often approach the boat, swimming in the bow and jumping out of the water, since they like to ride oceanic and coastal waves. They are usually seen in groups of 2 to 10 specimens. This sighting is interpreted throughout its entire journey by a guide specialized in fauna and seabirds, which enriches the adventure at the time of adequate approach to various species of seabirds, migratory birds such as: oystercatchers, royal and biguá cormorants, crested ducks and spoonbills. , kelp gulls and brown hood. Depending on the season, you can see different species of terns, witch herons, goose, and skimmers, among others. *This excursion includes the time necessary to observe Tonina Overa.
After the fantastic experience of watching Toninas Overas, we returned to the road towards Gaiman, a town located on the banks of the Chubut River and of historical and cultural importance to the Welsh community. Gaiman is an old Welsh colony developed in a particular landscape of wooded plots, wild walls and cliffs tattooed by erosion. It was the first municipality of Chubut and curiously, the origin of its name is not Welsh but Tehuelche and means: "Sharpening Stone" or "Stone Point." To learn about the Welsh culture and the history of this small town, we will visit its streets and particular architecture, such as the former railway station that contains historical relics, we will see the first house built in 1874, the tunnel through which the old railway passed and the old chapels - true spiritual support for the community. As an activity optional, we can enjoy the famous, traditional and delicious "Welsh tea", prepared through ancient customs, which gives it a unique flavor and perfume, tasting all types of regional and homemade cakes, breads and sweets. *This excursion includes the time necessary for the delicious tasting of Welsh Tea.
At the end of the tour in Gaiman, we return to the city of Puerto Madryn.
(In case bad weather prevents navigation to view Tonina Overa, the city of Rawson and Playa Unión is directly removed from the itinerary, continuing the visit to the city of Gaiman and Trelew)
