This excursion begins around 8:30/9:00 a.m., picking up passengers from their accommodation and then beginning this beautiful 200km adventure to Florentino Ameghino Dam.
From the city of Puerto Madryn we will take National Route No. 3 heading south-west, after about 65 km we will make the first stop to be surprised by the dinosaur Patagotitan Mayorum. Right there we will see in real size, one of the largest terrestrial specimens in the history of planet Earth so far. Scientists state that this species was 40 meters long, its neck was 12 meters and it weighed between 70 and 80 tons.
We continue the journey for about 120km taking Provincial Route N°25 until we reach Florentino Ameghino Dam where we can see the Hydroelectric Dam, an important 225-meter-long engineering work created to generate energy and regulate the flow of the Chubut River, which originates in the Andes Mountains and empties into the Atlantic Ocean. In this space, we will be able to experience the turquoise waters of the reservoir, the red sealing wax of the volcanic rocks, the ravines and marine sediments that account for the different forms of life many years ago.
We can experience the tunnels They cross an immense rock to reach the top of the concrete wall that forms the dam. On one side of the wall we can see the reservoir that is drawn between the rocks that present an imposing scenery and on the other side, rock formations that generate a reddish canyon surrounded by the beautiful waters of the river for several kilometers. On the banks, the vegetation and the color of the waters of the Chubut River create a landscape that invites you to rest and contemplate nature in all its splendor.
The place offers the possibility of carrying out different types of activities: People with more adventurous motivations can climb canyons between the natural walls of volcanic rock and trekking. People who want to enjoy the landscape in a calmer and more relaxed way can take walks and photographic safaris.
In the Dique Valley on the banks of the river there is a small town of approximately 280 inhabitants, and where we will go to see the breeding farm. Rainbow Trout. Its owners will introduce us to the world of breeding and the transition process they give it from its egg to its commercialization. In this space we will also find delicious local, artisanal creations that we can bring back as souvenirs. Taking advantage of our tour through this small Valley, we will have the option of enjoying a typical and exquisite Patagonian lamb or other delicious seasonal food (lunch not included).
After lunch we will tour the coasts of the Chubut River, through a small trekking towards the inclined ladder, located between rocks with a beautiful panoramic view of the place. This super name staircase "Inclined plane" It fulfilled the function of uniting and communicating the Dam workers to the camp where they lived temporarily. We will also know “The Leonera Cave”, another tourist attraction in Dique, named after stories told by ancient settlers in which they mentioned that there, above the cave, a mountain puma was observed. Currently it is a natural formation 6 meters long by 2 meters high, easy to access and beautiful natural structure.
Finally, we return to the city of Puerto Madryn.
