This excursion offers the possibility of combining different tourist spots that propose activities framed in the development of history, geography, paleontology, flora, fauna and the sociocultural process so enriching and characteristic of the area.
The excursion begins from the city of Puerto Madryn heading south, taking Provincial Route Nº3 until reaching the city of Trelew. Before, about 65 km we will make the first stop to be surprised by the dinosaur Patagotitan Mayorum. Right there we will see in real size, one of the largest terrestrial specimens in the history of planet Earth so far.
Then we continue to Trelew, its name in Welsh means “Louis' Town”, in homage to Lewis Jones, considered the founder of the city. Currently Trelew has a great cultural activity, being the center of important events: the Eisteddfod, the Gwyl Glaniand Tea (July 28), among other powerful events. We took a City Tour touring Plaza Independencia, communal buildings, the church and old buildings until we reached the Egidio Feruglio Paleontological Museum (MEF). This museum has a heritage of large and important dinosaur pieces found in local territory. In addition, it is a unique center of scientific activities in South America, reflecting a range of paleontological exhibits. Its interpretive tours tell the story of the different forms of life (animal, plant, native people), which were found and currently live in Patagonia.
In addition, dinosaur skeletons of different species and murals that set the pieces in their time are exhibited, as well as a variety of fossils classified in their different periods.
Then we return to the road towards Gaiman, a town located on the banks of the Chubut River and of historical and cultural importance to the Welsh community. Gaiman is an old Welsh colony developed in a particular landscape of wooded plots, wild walls and cliffs tattooed by erosion. It was the first municipality of Chubut and curiously, the origin of its name is not Welsh but Tehuelche and means: "Sharpening Stone" or "Stone Point." To learn about the Welsh culture and the history of this small town, we tour its streets and particular architecture, such as the first house built in 1874, the tunnel through which the old railway passed, and the old ones, among others. As an activity optional, we can enjoy the famous service "Welsh tea", tasting all kinds of regional and homemade cakes, breads and sweets.
After the fantastic experience in Gaiman, we will move to the town of Dolavon, where we will take a City Tour visiting the main tourist spots such as: “Viejo Molino” (historical building), “Antigua Estacion Ferrocarril” (cultural heritage), “La Mercante” (regional museum). We will also visit the main street where we can see the typical constructions of Welsh origin (made of sheet metal and brick), religious chapels, along with a beautiful landscape characteristic of the Chubut River Valley.
Within the Chubut River Valley, there is also the town of Rawson, capital of the province of Chubut. If time permits and the weather is favorable, our guide will offer to visit said place with the possibility of spotting Tonina Overa.
The times and order of the places to visit may vary, depending on the season, the weather and the interests of the group.
