This excursion is planned so that you can get to know Puerto Piramides (100km from Puerto Madryn), and take a whale-watching trip in a semi-submersible Yellow Submarine, returning to Puerto Madryn without having to travel through the Peninsula Valdés Protected Area.
Within the itinerary we will visit the “Carlos Ameghino Isthmus”, a narrow strip of land that connects the peninsula with the continent. Here is the “Carlos Ameghino Interpretation Center”, a small space designed to provide us with information about the ecosystem, flora, fauna and local history of Peninsula Valdés: here, we can observe the skeletons of a juvenile right whale among other species of terrestrial and aquatic animals, together with the history of the first residents of Puerto Pirámides. It also has a viewpoint to observe both gulfs (Golfo Nuevo and Golfo San Matías). Then we headed towards the “Punta Pirámides” Loberia (5 km from Puerto Pirámides), where we can observe a large roost of sea lions, located under a cliff and can be seen from a viewpoint with a privileged view. We continue to know «Bird Island », located about (5 km from Puerto Pirámides), which has an important local birdlife and a very beautiful particular history. Upon return from whale watching and only when the high tide coincides, we will stop at “El Doradillo” Protected Area, its coasts are ideal since they have a very steep slope which allows cetaceans to approach just a few meters from the coast. This beach is chosen by whales due to its calm and warm waters to give birth to their babies and breastfeed them. Until they are 30 or 40 days old, whale calves do not develop the layer of blubber that allows them to float. So their mothers carry them on the fin near the coast and take the opportunity to rest on the pebble bed.
The sighting Yellow Submarine, is carried out aboard a semi-submersible, offering the possibility of observing whales from inside and outside their habitat.
Observation from the inside (underwater), it offers a completely different perspective, comparable to diving alongside them. Aboard the Yellow Submarine, passengers can move freely and observe the whales on the surface from the deck. superior (above), as in a traditional observation or from the underwater cabin (below), being able to contemplate them through 40 underwater observation windows, each one with its own seat.
The species that can be observed are Southern Right Whales, Single-haired Sea Lions, typical birds of the Patagonian territory and Dusky Dolphins (depending on the time of year). Passengers may choose at any time, according to their preferences, to stay in the underwater cabin or on the outside deck. In both cases you will enjoy sitting comfortably and accompanied by the explanations of a whaling guide, while observing the different animals. Throughout the tour our guides will help interpret the behavior and dynamics of the animals, answering different questions that arise during the sighting.
Your tour will sail through the Golfo Nuevo, within a 10-mile radius of the starting point, depending on the position of the animals. Duration: : Approximately 2 hours.
The combination of underwater viewing with panoramic views from the outside deck is an unforgettable experience!
The departure time varies depending on the sailing shift you have booked, as does the itinerary.
