Day Out & Penguins at Estancia El Pedral
Just 75 km from Puerto Madryn, in the heart of the Golfo Nuevo, I discovered El Pedral Ranch: a centuries-old estate facing the sea, where history, nature and hospitality meet in perfect balance.
I spent a full day in this privileged corner of Patagonia, home to a growing colony of Magellanic penguins, southern right whale and elephant seal watching, and a family legacy dating back to 1923.
Ideal for those seeking an authentic experience, far from the usual tourist routes. All with a bilingual guide (Spanish/English) and small groups for a deep connection with the environment.
📍 Itinerary of the day
- Arrival at Estancia El Pedral: a warm welcome and a moment to disconnect from the daily grind
- Interpretive walk: Guided tour along nature trails to the penguin colony. Respectful observation among nests, chicks, and characteristic calls.

🌱 Conservation and Sustainability
The penguin colony at El Pedral began in 2008 with 13 pairs. Since its creation, El Pedral Wildlife Refuge (Provision 133/2024 DFyFS-MP), Its growth has been sustained, establishing it as one of the region's most outstanding natural attractions. We actively collaborate with the Global Penguin Society (GPS) in monitoring and conservation.
